Khalas is Al-Ahsa’s most famous date and the one you’ll find with coffee in every home and majlis. But when buying you’ll see names like “Super Jumbo”, “Al-Shuyukh” and “Royal” — so what’s the difference?

Super Jumbo: the pick of the harvest

The largest, plumpest Khalas dates with a glossy honey colour — chosen for gifts and big occasions.

Al-Shuyukh: the hospitality grade

Dates even in size and colour that look elegant on a serving plate — the usual choice for the majlis.

Royal and Golden: size meets colour

Royal is a large date with balanced sweetness; Golden stands out for its light colour and gentle honeyed taste.

Ashqar and Premium: for every day

Ashqar has a fair colour and firm bite; Premium is an excellent everyday family choice.

How to choose

For gifts: Super Jumbo or Al-Shuyukh. For everyday hosting: Royal or Golden. For family use: Ashqar or Premium.

For stores and restaurants, ask for wholesale pricing on larger quantities.

And how to store it

In an airtight container in the fridge it stays soft for months; longer in the freezer. Take it out an hour before serving.
